Baptism is For Every Believer

Water baptism is a powerful and significant step in the life of every Jesus follower. It’s a public declaration of faith – an outward expression of an inner decision to follow Christ.

No matter where you are on your journey, baptism is a moment to mark your commitment and celebrate the transformative work of Jesus in your life.

How do we get baptised?

Why Water Baptism?

Obedience

Jesus commanded his followers to be baptised (Matthew 28:19). Jesus commanded Baptism because of what it symbolises and the significance of what takes place within us.

Relationship

Baptism is a public declaration of a personal relationship with God. It symbolises a lifelong commitment to God and an intention to give Him full access to your life.

Intimacy

Baptism is also symbolic of both the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and His conquering of sin, death, and resurrection to new life. When we go through the waters of Baptism, we acknowledge we're leaving behind of our old life (habits, struggles, and tendencies) and are stepping fully into our new life in Christ.

Invitation

As we go through the waters of Baptism, the Holy Spirit is fully empowered to come in and do what only He can do – change us from the inside out! Many receive prophetic words, direction, dreams and inspiration from God as a result of their Baptism.

Still Have Questions?

Can I get baptised more than once?

It's not required, but in some cases, it may be meaningful – such as if your first baptism was out of obligation or before making a personal decision to follow Jesus.

I have been christened/dedicated before – is this the same as baptism?

No, baptism by full immersion in water is a separate step, symbolising full commitment to Jesus and inviting the Holy Spirit into every area of life.

Is baptism required to become a member of LIFE?

No, there is no baptism requirement in order to become a member of LIFE. In fact, there are no requirements to become a member of LIFE! All are welcome.

I still have questions. Who do I ask?

You can ask your Discipleship Pastor or head to the Next Steps Lounge after every service at LIFE.

Can an infant be baptised?

No, because baptism requires a personal decision to follow Jesus. Instead, infants can be dedicated to invite God’s protection and blessing until they are old enough to choose baptism for themselves. Find out more about Child Dedications at LIFE.

Is there a ‘right time’ to be baptised?

As soon as possible after deciding to follow Jesus! Baptism isn’t something to wait for until you feel more mature in your faith it’s a crucial step that strengthens and deepens your commitment. The sooner you take this step, the stronger your foundation will be.
